Dog’s name: Jackpot
Age: Senior (exact age unknown)
Breed: Unknown
Weight: approximately 45-50 pounds
Height: 19 inches from floor to top of back
Handicap: Senior, skin cancer, skin loss due to severe mange
History:
Jackpot was picked up as a stray in Tennessee; he was one of the worst mange cases
the shelter had seen (see before picture submitted). Due to the severity of his mange,
he has permanent skin damage, permanent hair loss and skin cancer. The shelter
spent close to 2 years getting him healthy. During that time, his sweet and loving
personality captured the hearts of the shelter staff. He even became the shelter
mascot, representing the shelter on local TV shows to raise awareness for rescue
dogs. As he was always passed up by potential adopters due to his unique
appearance, the shelter decided to send him to Top Dog Foundation in MN, as Top Dog
has a strong network of resources to find him a home.
Where dog came from: Top Dog Foundation
Personality traits/comments: Extremely gentle, loves kids, very smart, car rides are
his favorite (but he prefers shotgun seating). He loves boat rides and hiking, but
refuses to swim. He is a good sport about dressing up with kids, walks are his favorite
part of the day, and he is learning to snuggle. Compassion and empathy are two of his
strengths – when someone is sad, he senses the emotion and he will sit quietly nearby
in solidarity.
